Bomb Sniffing Dog Reunites With Army Pal

This chocolate Lab named CiCi spent five years in and out of Iraq with her best friend, Army Sergeant Jason Bos. She wasn’t Bos’ personal dog, however; rather CiCi was a canine “soldier” owned by the Army and trained as a bomb sniffer.

Her job was to detect land mines, IEDs and other explosives threats. Over the years Jason came to see her not only as his lifesaving protector, but as a beloved companion. He took over her care and feeding, and the two bonded.

In 2012, Bos was forced to retire from the Army due to a back injury, and had to leave Cici behind. Cici, who was still on active duty, got reassigned to a unit in Germany. “It was tough,” Bos told NBC Chicago. “I was a little emotional about it because I really didn’t know if I was ever going to see her again.”

Thanks to Facebook, though, Bos was able to keep tabs on Cici. When he found out last year that she was being retired, he began pulling strings to claim her once she was mustered out of the Army.

He worked with a K9 rescue organization to help bring Cici to Michigan to live with him.

Though Cici had not seen Jason for nearly two years, she not only remembered him but was absolutely thrilled the moment she saw him waiting for her at the airport.
